Il compendio garibaldino costituisce l'insieme degli edifici, cimeli e pertinenze un tempo di proprietà di Giuseppe Garibaldi, ceduti allo Stato italiano che ne ha curato il restauro e la ristrutturazione, nel 1978. L'eroe in un momento particolarmente difficile della sua vita, dopo la disfatta della Repubblica Romana, la morte dell'amata Anita e l'abbandono dei figli, trovò nell'arcipelago maddalenino l'atmosfera migliore per riprendersi psicologicamente e riprogettare la propria vita.
Si stabilì definitivamente a Caprera nel 1857 per morirvi il due giugno 1882.
La visita del compendio ha inizio con la stalla per poi proseguire con la casa bianca, articolata come segue: Dall'atrio (armi, vessilli, carrozzella dell'eroe) si raggiunge la camera da letto matrimoniale (in realtà vi dormiva Teresita, figlia di Anita morta nel 1903), con la scrivania e la pianola che testimoniano l'inclinazione di Garibaldi per la scrittura, la musica e il bel canto. Dalla stanza dei cimeli (oggetti personali del generale) si procede nel tinello (credenza primo 800 della madre di Garibaldi, famosi dipinti, armadio con abiti, oggetti ed un ciocca di capelli dell'eroe), nel salotto (notevole la poltrona con scrittoio-leggio regalata all'eroe dalla regina Margherita di Savoia) e nella stanza della morte (con il letto rivolto verso la Corsica, arredo originario e orologio di fabbricazione inglese fermo alle 18.20, ora della morte).
Dalla casa bianca si può scendere fino alla tomba dell'eroe ed il piccolo cimitero familiare.
Nel capannone è custodita la barca che la Marina Sarda regalò al generale nel 1860 ed un'altra che fu donata al figlio Manlio nel 1881.
